Technical Writer at Phoenix

Job Description



The Technical Writer is responsible for the development of technical and user manuals for both on-site and on-line programs. The Technical Writer works with business analysts, programming analysts and business owners, to translate technical concepts into documentation written at a level appropriate for the audience to enable internal end users to effectively and efficiently use on-site and on-line programs.

Researches, writes, edits, and proofreads complex technical data for use in documents or sections of documents such as manuals, procedures and specifications to provide clients with information regarding technical areas in a less technical way. Reviews and revises documents prepared by others and coordinates the preparation of those materials for a completed product. Determines the scope and timeline of new documentation projects in order to plan projects, and ensures projects and products meet deadlines, quality standards and client needs. Interviews programmers, developers, and other technical personnel;=reads previous documentation and design notes; and uses computer based training or Company technical products to gather and research more complex technical information to develops and establish documentation based upon information gathered. Creates, organizes, enters and compiles online help for complex technical issues to support end users. Establishes and creates style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations to meet business needs, and ensures documents and materials adhere to established standards and guidelines. Creates, compiles, and delivers complex system/software developmental documentation packages including, but not limited to narratives, logic diagrams, input and output samples, input preparation instructions, test and training specifications, and programming notes. Provides feedback and input and helps craft documentation provided by others. Provides leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel. Job Requirements



Minimum Qualifications :

Minimum 3 years of technical writing experience in an IT software development, Engineering, Manufacturing or Pharmaceutical environment. Experience working with business writing style including grammar, sentence form, and structure.

Preferred Qualifications :

Minimum of 3 years of experience in business systems settings. Bachelors degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or Business. Masters degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or Business. Experience working in large, complex businesses. Experience in waste or transportation industry.

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, HTML, and Adobe Flash. Strong written and oral communication skills. Good personal computer and business solutions software skills. Strong proofreading and editing skills. Leadership skills to guide and mentor the work of less experienced personnel. Ability to convert technical knowledge into easily understood terms. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Effective interpersonal communication across various levels of the organization. Ability to foster effective collaboration and teamwork. Demonstrates knowledge of the entire Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Ability to interpret, evaluate and communicate detailed information. Strong analytical skills. Demonstrates creative thinking abilities. Ability to contribute to the creation and review of an information systems strategy and organization-wide technical architecture. Strong project management skills with the ability to project plan, monitor and implement projects in timely and cost effective methods. Ability to deal with rapid change required.
