Software Engineer I at Fort Huachuca

Job Description



Learning Innovation Office (LIO) is leading the US Armys efforts to shift learning from the old instructor-centric paradigm to a new learner-centric paradigm by incorporating new and emerging technologies into US Army Intel Center of Excellences existing learning infrastructure. The Software Engineer will serve on the Learning Innovation Task. Duties of the position will be; Test, analyze, create, and implement modifications to distributed learning products and delivery systems. Make modifications to existing courseware to correct errors, adapt to new hardware and improve performance. Produce reports based on LIO defined metrics. Create accounts and maintain them on the Learning Management System (LMS). Analyze user needs and courseware requirements to design feasibility within time and cost constraints. Store, retrieve, and manipulate data for analysis of system capabilities and requirements. Consult with customers about courseware system design and maintenance. Coordinate software system installation and monitor functionality to ensure specifications are met. Support additional development tasks as required to support LIO missions.


Relocation is not offered for the position local candidate are preferred



Required Experience:


  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret security clearance.


  • Four (4) years participating in design and development activities developing and maintaining complex software systems in a team environment.


  • Experience developing software products under the direction of a team lead.


  • Ability to apply knowledge and experience with several core programming languages including VB, C, Java, C++, and C# in order to validate courseware algorithms and integrate courseware into LMS and other applications.


  • At least 2 years experience with client side scripting languages and techniques (e.g., Java Script, VB Script, and AJAX).


  • Must be able to use the following software programs to perform requirements that use office automation: Windows XP/7, MS-Word, MS-Outlook, MS-PowerPoint, MS-Excel.


  • Ability to apply modern software production and management practices to manage rapid development and implementation of tested instructional courseware. Ability to develop and implement quality assurance practices, policies, and procedures to ensure the highest quality of instructional courseware. Ability to research and implement new technologies and techniques.


  • Understand computer programming and all phases of the software development life cycle. understand procedural, scripted, and object-oriented programming languages in order to validate courseware algorithms and integrate courseware into LMS and other courseware development applications.


  • Knowledge of and experience using basic data constructs in a variety of programming languages. Ability to write, develop, test, and document requirements.


  • Ability to integrate code into distance learning (dL) products and document testing and integration results. Familiarity with version control, continuous integration, and configuration management.


  • Working knowledge of SQL queries supporting MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle databases.


    Desired Skills:


  • Game design, development, and support desirable.


  • Web development, Software development on a Department of Defense contract.


    Required Education (including Major): Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field is preferred. Experience maybe considered in lieu of education
