Nurse Midwife - ESEP/MP at Kayenta

JOB SUMMARY:

The Indian Health Service (IHS) is the principal federal health care provider and health advocate for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN). The IHS goal is to raise Indian health status to the highest possible level. IHS provides leadership and direction to programs and activities designed to improve health outcomes to over 1.9 million AI/AN through a system of IHS, Tribal and Urban operated facilities and programs.

POSITION DETAILS:

Salary range:

GS-09; $55,413 - $67,878 Annually

GS-11; $67,047 - $82,131 Annually

GS-12; $78,355 - $96,436 Annually

Promotion potential: This position has Promotion potential to the GS-11 and GS-12 level. Promotion to the next grade level is at Managements discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for higher level duties, and administrative approval.

Merit Promotion Position: Yes

Travel Required: Yes, Occassional Travel MAY be Required

Supervisory/Managerial Position: No

Relocation Expenses Paid:  Relocation expenses are authorized and will be paid only if you are a current Federal Employee. You will be required to sign a One-Year Service Agreement. Failure to fulfill the one-year service agreement may result in repyament of relocation expensesIs position covered by PL 101-630? Alternative work schedule at Management Approval, call back, standby, rotating shifts, nights/weekends/holidays? No

This position requires that you obtain and maintain clinical privileges. If they are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee may be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from the Federal service.

  • Provides independent care to mothers and babies including high-risk patients of the maternal-child population.
  • Provides independent care within established guidelines of a medically directed health service.
  • Manages the medical and nursing care of patients in the antepartum period, during labor and delivery.
  • Collaborates in planning and participates in teaching educational programs for patients, families, para-professionals, and professional health workers.
  • Manages the medical nursing care of patients (clinic and inpatient) during their postpartum period, provides family planning education and services, and provides gynecological services to healthy women.

    BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

    EDUCATION: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

     

    GS-9:  2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to master’s degree or master’s or equivalent graduate degree.

    GS-11: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level.

    GS-12: 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level.

     

    REGISTRATION: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

    Applicants for nurse midwife positions must have completed an organized program of study and clinical experience recognized by the American College of Nurse Midwives.

    In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of tasks: In addition to basic requirements, applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level to qualify for the GS-09 level; candidates must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level to qualify for the GS-11 grade level; candidates must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level to qualify for the GS-12 grade level. 

    Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
