Duties and Responsibilities: 

Examines and Maintains Accounts & Accounting Data 100percent.  Examines, verifies, and maintains financial accounts andaccounting data and classifies accounting transactions including theverification of the accuracy and completeness of the accounting data.Determines the general ledger accounts, journals, and subsidiary accountsaffected, and the debit and credit entries to be made. Summarizes transactionsand prepares control documents or other posting document reflecting the entriesto be made. Incumbent has technical responsibility for the maintenance,auditing, and reconciliation of the general and subsidiary ledger accounts forthe preparation of accurate and timely reports, and for the control of funds.

Determines the nature of errors and makes adjustments in the correctappropriation to a variety of interrelated accounts. Researches, interprets,and verifies which appropriation and general ledger accounts a document andsubsequent accounting transactions will affect; establishes routines for inputof these transactions.  Preparesreconciliations of the general ledger to subsidy accounts, accruals, adjustingjournal entries, accounting reports and special reports. Reconciles accountingprograms output with input for accuracy. Maintains control of receipts anddisbursements.  Maintains control offunds obligated and funds expended.  Ensuresthe timely preparation of all reports for Department of Treasury, agency HQ,and local management.  Analyzes generalledger accounts to ensure accurate reports.  Analyzes documents for accuracy andauthorization.  Documents financialtransactions to assure proper audit trail. Assigns transactions that will havethe proper accounting effect. Reviews pending items and ensures that follow-upaction is taken on all items pending for excessive periods of time.Work Schedule:  Monday through Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm (also compressed/flexible schedule available)

Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.  Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Time-in-grade for GS-05: Federal employees must serve a minimum of 52 weeks of general experience or higher in a GS-4 position or higher to be eligible for the GS-05 level. Applicant is responsible for providing supporting documentation with his/her application that shows time-in-grade requirements have been met.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector that: examines, verifies, and maintains financial accounts and accounting data and classifies accounting transactions including the verification of the accuracy and completeness of the accounting data with close supervision performing the less complex duties.

Education for GS-5: Successfully completed four years of education above high school.  This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.  One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

 

Time-in-grade for GS-06: Federal employees must serve a minimum of 52 weeks in a GS-05 position or higher to be eligible for the GS-06 level. Applicant is responsible for providing supporting documentation with his/her application that shows time-in-grade requirements have been met.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector that: examines, verifies, and maintains financial accounts and accounting data and classifies accounting transactions including the verification of the accuracy and completeness of the accounting data with some supervision.

OR

Education for GS-6: Successfully completed four years of education above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

 

Time-in-grade for GS-07: Federal employees must serve a minimum of 52 weeks at a particular grade to be eligible for promotion consideration to the next higher grade. For this vacancy, Applicants who within the previous 52 weeks held a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment must meet time-in-grade requirements. For this occupation, applicants must have served 52 weeks in a GS-06 position or higher to be eligible for the GS-07 level. Applicant is responsible for providing supporting documentation with his/her application that shows time-in-grade requirements have been met.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector that: examines, verifies, and maintains financial accounts and accounting data and classifies accounting transactions including the verification of the accuracy and completeness of the accounting data without supervision.

Education for the GS-7: One full year of graduate level education directly related to the work of the position for one year of specialized experience.  This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary.  Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work.  However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items as papers, books, small parts; or driving an automobile, etc...  No special physical demands are required to perform the work.  The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meetings and training rooms, or libraries.  The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
