Job Responsibilities

The Clinical Architect provides technical expertise and technical leadership towards the coordination of activities designed to enhance the content and functionality of the Ambulatory Information Management solution. The Clinical BI Architect provides guidance in the integration of clinical content; workflow, and operational processes, and knowledge into informatics solutions that optimize the functionality, implementation, and benefits realization of Ambulatory Information Management program. The Clinical BI Architect designs, develops, and manages the architecture of the BI/DW, working with the Project Manager to coordinate planning activities in support of new content development such as needs assessment, documentation of requirements, and design of new databases, data structures, reporting enhancements, and structural changes to enhance overall performance and support of clinical reporting processes. The Clinical BI Architect acts as a liaison for the technical developers and report developers to the Project Manager and Business Analysts. The Architect identified and resolves technical issues and risks, supporting the overall quality of the BI reporting capabilities. The Architect supports the clinical improvement initiatives of the Ambulatory Information Management solution through the effective use of BI/DW Information Systems architectures, designs, technologies and processes. This position handles the overall technical architecture of the Ambulatory Information Management solution, including technical change requests and technical enhancement priorities. The Clinical BI Architect provides leadership and technical oversight for the planning and implementation of new functionality in Ambulatory Information Management solution. The Architect provides technical leadership in knowledge management and content integration through analysis of technical architectures, data flows and data processing. The Architect participates with facility and project leadership to assure successful adoption of new functionality and related applications and initiatives. The Architect will directly interface with IT, AIM Developers, Report developers, Business Data Analysts, and Project Management along with internal customers at the Manager and Director levels.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides technical leadership for the design and development of the AIM solution and associated projects and systems. Establishing and maintaining a robust technical architecture to support the business and clinical reporting needs. Supports the technical decisions and technical architecture developments for the integration of data from multiple sources. Provides technical oversight, support, and direction to Data Integration (ETL) developers, data models, and Database Administrators (DBA). Guides and mentors technical staff, and translates clinical systems functionality into required technical architectures for Business and Clinical reporting requirements. Leads the AIM Technical architecture planning , including technical needs, and new clinical BI reporting requirements. Assists in development of disaster recovery and downtime technical strategies for clinical reporting operations in times of need. Ensures protocol compliance relative to data collection and scientific methodology. Provides expert analytical expertise to current workflow processes. Assists in the development of process and operational redesign recommendations leading to a solution and/or functional system requirements. Provides technical oversight in the planning and implementation of standardized health (medical) vocabulary and the electronic medical record storage. Participates in application development decisions. Addresses technical potential issues in report design and development. Provides technical leadership and direction in all phases of the project plan including the development of policies and procedures, system testing, conversion planning, end-user education and facilitation of organizational change. Provides technical guidance and support in the collection and reporting of metrics defining benefits realization, operational efficiencies, and return on investment associated with Ambulatory l Information Management Systems and recommending changes to the informatics solution as needed. Communicates technical priorities, design techniques, issues, and issues resolution to key stakeholders. With others, provides leadership to promote continuity of the clinical computing environment and application functionality in accordance with the intended design as deployed from facility to facility. Assists facility clinical leadership and site operation leads at each facility in coordination of project technical resources for robust systems support. Monitors application use, system performance, hardware reliability, and software stability. Captures, defines, and prioritizes pre and post implementation issues. Reports and participates in the problem solving of issues that impact locally and enterprise performance. Directs, leads, and coaches technical team members.

Job Requirements

Education:

Technical degree in related field or equivalent professional experience required. Graduate degree in technical area, computer science, informatics, information systems, or a related field equivalency preferred.

Experience:

5+ years experience in designs and development of clinical data collection and analysis systems 5-10 years of clinical, healthcare systems implementation, and/or experience in progressively responsible positions. 5+ years working with clinical information systems implementations. 3+ years of experience working in systems design, support and/or systems implementation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Required skills: Data Warehousing, Understanding of Clinical Data, Microsoft SQL Server development tools (SQL, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS), Data Modeling tool (ERWIN), Implementation experience. Broad knowledge and experience in advanced technology solutions in large, complex environments. Knowledge of the healthcare information systems life cycle. Knowledge of inpatient and outpatient care environments and workflow processes. Computer literacy (use of computer technology to accomplish tasks) and information literacy (ability to recognize, locate, evaluate, and use information appropriately). Excellent communication skills, ability to translate complex concepts to non computer users and various levels of personnel from executives to end-users. Ability to create effective interpersonal relationships. Ability to resolve conflict and negotiate compromise solutions where necessary. Expert analytical skills. Knowledge and skills in formal systems analysis techniques. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills. Ability to work in a complex and matrixed team environment; experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, schedule, and meet deadlines. Possesses the ability to provide sound and reliable judgment, take initiative, and accomplish task with minimal supervision in complex situations.
